Pride and Prejudice

prideandprejudice3s-2005-11-29-03-30.jpg
Good movie. I liked the 6 hour BBC version with Colin Firth much better (better acting and looking Mr. Darcy), but it was a good 2 hour version.

I did not like the "American" slant on it. People were more outwardly rude to one another and the speech was more American than British. (Jane Austin's writing is great because of her clever "under the radar" rudeness between the classes.) The more modern rude dialog is not as "skillful" as in the book and it took away from the humor that Jane Austin captures in all of her books.

As I thought about it (after I went) the Lizzy character of this version would have not been as outwardly "sassy" as the movie made her out to be. That whole era was about passive aggressive people. :)

I DID like the way they conveyed the balls and parties and how dirty, country life was even for a family with money during that time period. Life was more earthy and mud would be everywhere! It was not as "clean" as the BBC special.

Overall, it was pretty good. I would even see it again. I read so many reviews that LOVED it. I LIKED it very much, but did not LOVE IT. I would recommend it though.

BLACK FRIDAY

Okay so I did it! Well, almost. I did the lazy version of black Friday. I HATE to get up early for things that are not necessary. I HATE Christmas crowds. (I think it is the 5 years spent working retail.)

This year I got up at the crack of dawn. . . okay, 10:00 am and my bro, mom and I went to Mardel’s (a Christian book store) to see what we could find. Normally I would hit Best Buy, but since I cannot use US electronics in Poland . . . pointless! Bill (my bro) got a butt load of clearance books and saved tons of money. He is good at that. I, well, I got Christmas cards. I know, not real exciting ☺. The best part was spending time with the fam. My dad was working out as normal, so we decided to slip in shopping until he got back! It was a great time.

Thanksgiving, a day of many thanks!

IMG_0577-2005-11-25-02-31.jpg
What a time it was! We had family in town and for me it was bitter sweet because I am not sure when I will get back to the States for Thanksgiving and this may be the last one I get to spend with my Grams. I have thought that every year for a few of them, so she may surprise me next time! I hope so! It was a great time.

My Time in Nebraska

IMG_0531-2005-11-21-03-02.jpg

Nebraska? What good can come from Nebraska? (Spoken like a true CU fan even after the tromping they got this weekend BY Nebraska!) ☺

I have a very dear college friend who’s husband is a pastor in Grant, Nebraska. We have not seen each other for over 13 years and I wanted to reconnect, so I jumped in my car and drove 4 hours to visit. What a great time! I regretted the time that we have let by and hope that the next 13 years will be full of emails and skype and more visits!
Thank you Vince and Beth for a GREAT time!

Friends all over the world!

IMG_0516c-2005-11-14-03-41.jpg
Typically, I only get to hear Polish is Poland, but not this last week!

I had the honor of welcoming a dear friend from Poland. Aga is from Zielona Gora and was in between au pair jobs, so she visited Jen Roseman and I. We had a GREAT time showing Aga the sights of Denver and the mountains! Can anyone say Beau Jos? It was GREAT! It blows me away to think that the next time Jen Aga and I will be together will be over a year from now. It fact that I am really leaving my family and friends is really starting to hit me.

When I decided to follow God’s calling to go to Poland, I knew that the cost was going to be great and that friends and family would be the number one sacrifice for me. This week made it very real to me. At the same time though, I was able to talk to one of my team mates in Poland and even though I am giving up life here, I have a great family and group of friends waiting for me in Poland!

Is "X" Really the Spot?

m51_hst_lgx-2005-11-3-06-21.jpg
Have you ever really looked up into to sky at night and wonder how small you really are? I mean, earth is nothing but a blue speck of dust in one galaxy of who knows how many. And not only that, you are just one of BILLIONS of people on that little speck of blue dust.

Wow! Do I feel small! Sometimes I wonder just why I am on this planet and what is life worth anything. We scratch and struggle for what? You look at the universe and NOTHING we do will really matter in the grand scheme of things. Man thinks he is all that, and yet when you look at the vastness of space, we are nothing.

I went to Chris Tomlin's "Indescribable" worship concert last night. The feeling of insinificance was replaced by incredible security as we were lead to the Truth that we are created special in God's image for relationship with Him and the universe was made to declare His Glory! What at time it was!

Wow! Imagine different types of worship, different generations, denominations and expressions of worship all in one room to do one thing. . . glorify God! It was a piece of heaven! Louie Giglio gave us an incredible glimpse of God's special love for us! He talked about how vast the universe was and how small and insignificant earth is. Yet, GOD HAS CHOSEN TO HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH US! He made all of it for us! We are made in His image to glorify His Name!

Above is the whirlpool galaxy. In the center is an opening that the Hubble telescope finally got a good picture of. What they found was incredible . . . One more sign of His love for us!

Psalm 19: 1 says, "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands."

Look at HIS HANDIWORK! Even the center
of a galaxy cries of the majesty of God's work on our behalf! Many scientists do not want us to see this photo because it is too religious. It took me a while, but I found it on the internet! Scientists call it the "X center" of the galaxy. Interesting that it looks more like a cross! Even the heavens tell us about God's provision for us!

Our time last night was full of reading scripture, prayer, "traditional" hymns and "modern" worship songs. It was a time in which God was there! Imagine, a sold out crowd closing an AWESOME concert with "How Great Thou Art" being song a capella! (everyone walked off the stage)

After that, no one chanted for an encore. How can you ask the King of kings to Encore Himself??
